Accomplishing great things does not come suddenly to a student, it comes from constant practice, self-discipline, and utilization of talents. This is why it is believed that no admission management software is capable enough of understanding students’ true capability, and a teacher or a group of teachers have to be present while admitting students to a school.
Just like the school provides opportunities to students with a growth-focused mindset, it creates a similar growth-driven mindset in them even after the admission management software completes its procedures.
Understanding growth motivated mindset
Research suggests that a student’s intellectual abilities can be optimized with proper efforts. Not just a student, but any individual’s talents can be enhanced if invigorated methods are utilized. This means that if a student already has a talent, they can not only become better at doing it but also adopt some other habits and improve on them later.
For example, students who love to swim can join classes that help them become better swimmers. The same students can also join Kung Fu classes as a hobby, and believe that they can do better simultaneously in both activities. Apart from this, they are also academically motivated for overall achievement. This is how a growth mindset affects students, it makes them believe in themselves, and the power of learning.
Comparing fixed and growth mindset
When parents, teachers, and students focus only on a fixed mindset, they believe that some children are not equipped enough to achieve certain goals. For example, they fall short according to the fees management software, and teachers assume that due to financial limitations the development of the child is slow. Similarly, due to medical or other challenges faced by students, people can limit their growth areas. Having such a mindset will not allow students to think outside the box, and put in extra efforts to grow past their challenges.
On the other hand, with a growth mindset, we can acknowledge a situation and think about the solutions to overcome the shortcoming rather than limiting a child’s knowledge due to the shortcoming. It is not the final achievement of an aim that matters, it is the amount of effort and dedication put into the activity or enhancement of talent. When a lot of students come together, they go past their limitations and come together to understand how they can learn and receive an education.
Teachers can stimulate the growth process by not having a fixed mindset themselves, and by showing the ways of growth-motivated processes to the students.
Here are some tips that imbibe a growth mindset into students;
● Set attainable mini-goals
A child is a woman when they are asked to do a lot of things in a short period. Teachers and parents have to understand that excellence cannot be achieved in a day or a few weeks, it needs a lot of time for students to practice something. This practice can be done in the form of attaining mini-goals, which lead up to the attainment of one major goal.
● Praise and punishment
Just like children should be punished for doing something wrong, they should also be praised from time to time to encourage them. This type of positive encouragement and reinforcement helps students keep doing good. Apart from praising their achievement of goals, even if a child is unable to attain them, their efforts are praiseworthy enough. A teacher’s job is to praise efforts also, and not only winners.
● Second chances and opportunities
Some people like to portray how difficult it is to survive in the world. However, time and time again, life and people provide second chances and opportunities to people out of the blue or because they have worked for it. Similarly, teachers should also promote giving second chances themselves giving chances to students to better themselves.
● Interactive activities
Group activity is a great way to help students because they enhance their soft skills such as communication, decision making, empathy, coordination, confidence, and so on.
● Disregarding grades
Grades are not the ultimate measure of student success, it defines only their academic achievements. A growth mindset aims to focus on overall accomplishment and not simply getting good grades. Teachers should stress students’ participation in extracurricular activities for overall growth.
● Importance of taking risks
Students should learn to take calculated risks. It prepares them for life, mixes their experience, and learns new things. When children take risks, they rely on themselves more and discipline themselves because it helps them calculate the risk that they are taking and learn more about the positive side. It also forms a great learning experience for them.
